Eagle watching in CDA is great! There are hundreds of eagles that journey through the area, stopping at Wolf Lodge Bay and Beauty Bay to feed on the Kokanee Salmon that die at the end of their spawn. Kokanee Salmon are a version of Sockeye Salmon that do not migrate to the ocean, but rather stay in fresh water their entire life. This causes a abundance of food for the eagles this time of year, and they take full advantage of it like clockwork.

I always see the coolest moments out watching them. It’s awesome to see the adults teaching the young eaglets how to dive and catch fish. They drop them and play around a lot, dive bombing each other and playing king of the tree. It’s really neat to see.

They are here from about Thanksgiving to Christmas so if you have time, I highly suggest taking an hour or two and seeing and hearing them in person.
